Multiple Choice Question Scoring Rules
Multiple choice questions have three scoring methods: "No score for less selection", "Fixed score for less selection", and "Partial score for less selection". The system default is "No Partial Credit". The setting can be accessed as shown in the image below:
(1) No score for less selection
students only receive points if they select all correct answers. Selecting too few, too many, or incorrect options results in zero points.
(2) Partial score for less selection
when a question has multiple correct answers, students receive specified points for selecting some but not all correct answers. For example, if a multiple-choice question has three correct answers (A, C, and D): Selecting ABC = full points (complete correct answer) Selecting A, D, C, AD, AC, or DC = partial points (sum of points for correctly selected options), as shown in the image below.
Important Notes: The sum of individual correct option points cannot exceed the total question points, but can be less. If less, selecting all correct answers still earns full question points, not just the sum of individual option points. Selecting too many options or incorrect options results in zero points. Checking "Apply this rule to all multiple-choice questions" will automatically apply partial credit scoring to all multiple-choice questions.
(3) Fixed score for less selection
selecting too few or missing some correct options earns half the total question points. Selecting incorrect options results in zero points.
Important Notes: For questions worth 1 point or less, the fixed credit defaults to 0. For questions worth more than 1 point with odd numbers or decimals, fixed credit is rounded up from half the total points. When "Apply this rule to all multiple-choice questions" is selected, the rule won't apply to questions worth less than the set fixed credit value.
