Create questionnaire via AI intelligent recognition
AI Recognition is a smart feature in SurveyMars "Import from text": upload a Word document containing your survey content, and the system automatically recognizes questions and question types, then generates an editable survey preview—no need to enter each question manually. It works best when you already have survey question text (e.g., questions organized from other documents) and want to build a survey quickly.
Overview
AI Recognition turns survey-style text in a Word document into a structured survey.
It addresses a common pain point: you have finished question text but would otherwise add each question in the system by hand, choose question types, and fill in options. After you upload your document, AI matches question types and generates the survey, saving time. This feature lives under "Create survey → Import from text" on the method selection page, alongside "Import using sample format," and is one of the main ways to create a survey.
Access and Mode Selection
1. Start the create-survey flow and choose "Import from text" as the creation method.

2. When import from text is selected, the page shows two options:
- Import Using the Example Format: Upload a Word file or paste text in the fixed format; best when your survey is laid out exactly like the sample. Learn more
- AI Recognition: Upload your document and AI will recognize the content and create the survey; best when you have question text that is not strictly formatted like the sample.

Steps (AI Recognition)
1. On the "Choose creation method" page, confirm you're in the import-from-text flow, then find the "AI Recognition" panel in the center.
2. In the AI Recognition area, click or drag to upload a Word document (.doc or .docx; max 6MB). After a successful upload, the system processes the file and opens the "Create with AI" preview dialog.

3. In the preview dialog, review the recognized questions and question types. The left side shows "AI Recognition" and the upload entry; the rest of the layout matches Create with AI. You can edit questions, change question types or options in the dialog, then save to create the survey.

When Recognition Fails
If you see a "Recognition failed" message after uploading:

Option 1: If the text content is correct, formatting may be causing the failure. Open the document, select all text, clear formatting, then upload again.
Option 2: If option 1 doesn't work, click "Download sample" in the dialog to get a sample survey format, adjust your document to match, then upload again.
Option 3: If you don't have survey text yet, click the "AI Creation" link in the dialog to go to AI Create survey and have AI help you build a survey from scratch.
Important Notes
- AI Recognition is for survey text only. Non-survey documents (e.g., reports, instructions, reference material) may not be recognized; use "AI Creation" to build a survey from scratch.
- Your document should include survey structure such as question numbers, question text, and options so AI can match question types correctly. Exam-style surveys use separate recognition rules (including correct answers, answer explanations, etc.).
- The 360 survey type does not offer an AI Recognition entry.
- After successful recognition, review questions and question types in the preview dialog and make any manual adjustments before saving.
FAQ
Why do I see "Recognition failed" after uploading?
This feature only recognizes survey-style content (questions, options, etc.). Reports, instructions, or other non-question text cannot be turned into a survey. Use "Download sample" to check the expected format, or use "AI Creation" to build a survey from scratch.
What file formats are supported? Is there a size limit?
Only Word documents (.doc or .docx) are supported; file size must not exceed 6MB.
Besides downloading the sample after recognition fails, what else can I do?
If you don't have survey text ready, click the "AI Creation" link in the message dialog to build a survey from scratch with AI.
What's the difference between AI Recognition and "Import using sample format"?
Import using sample format requires your document to follow the system sample layout strictly. AI Recognition parses questions and options in the document and matches question types automatically, so format requirements are looser—better when you already have question text that isn't formatted like the sample.
Can I use AI Recognition on mobile or tablet?
Yes. Import from text and AI Recognition are supported on mobile; the entry and steps are the same as on desktop.
