Hide Option

In certain special scenarios, we need to hide specific questions (making them invisible to respondents on the questionnaire answering/preview page) while still displaying them in statistics and downloads. Now, you can hide these questions at any time. The detailed operation methods and precautions are as follows:

Hidden Questions

1. On the questionnaire editing page, edit the question and click the "Hide Question" button at the position shown in the figure below.

2. After hiding, the question will still be visible in the editing page but will be grayed out.

3. Click the "Show Question" button to restore it to visible status.

Usage Restrictions

1. What is the logic of hiding questions? It actually associates the question with a special condition that will never be triggered;

2. Does the question still exist? Yes, the question still exists. As mentioned above, it is just associated with a condition that can never be triggered, so it will never be displayed;

3. Are there any prerequisites for hiding questions? The question to be hidden cannot have any question logic, including jumps or being jumped to, associations or being associated;

4. Will there be issues with the question data? Like regular questions whose logic is not triggered, the data for this question will be "(Skipped)", except when the question answer is predefined through other methods;

5. Can required questions be hidden? Yes, just like required questions with associations that are not triggered;

6. Does it affect question randomization? Yes, if there are 5 questions in total and 2 are hidden, random selection of 4 questions will only show 3 questions;

Use Cases

1. When you want to hide certain questions from respondents (if there are no responses, you can delete them directly; if there are responses, you can hide them);

2. When questions are assigned values through parameters or formulas (question custom validation), these questions don't need to be manually answered by respondents, nor do they need to be visible to respondents (publishers can view the data without being affected);

3. In workflow approval applications, when questions need to be completed by respondents in later nodes, they can be set as hidden questions and displayed at specific nodes for respondents to complete;

Hiding Options

When a questionnaire already has response data, the system prohibits deleting options to maintain data consistency. However, now, when there is response data (in partial editing mode), you can hide options.

Operation Methods

1. In partial editing mode, the minus sign for removing options changes to "Hide Option". Click it and confirm in the popup window to hide the option;

2. After hiding, you can restore it;

Restrictions

1. What is the logic of hiding options? Like hiding questions, hidden options are also associated with a condition that will never be triggered;

2. Does the option still exist? Yes, it still exists;

3. Are there any prerequisites for hiding options? The option to be hidden cannot have any logic, including jumping to other questions, associations or being associated, cannot be set as the default option, and cannot be the correct answer in exams;

4. Will option descriptions be hidden together? The option text, option description, and fillable input box corresponding to the option will all be hidden;

5. What changes will occur in the question data? None, in terms of data, the selection count for this option will not increase;

6. Can matrix questions hide row or column headers? No, matrix questions do not support hiding either row or column headers;

7. Options can only be hidden in partial editing mode

FAQs

Q: When can I hide questions instead of deleting them?

A: You should hide questions when the questionnaire already has response data. If there are no responses, you can delete questions directly. Hiding preserves data consistency while making questions invisible to respondents.

Q: What happens to hidden questions in the questionnaire?

A: Hidden questions are invisible to respondents on the questionnaire answering/preview page, but they remain visible in the editing page (grayed out) and are still included in statistics and downloads.

Q: Can I hide questions that have logic or associations?

A: No, questions to be hidden cannot have any question logic, including jumps, associations, or being jumped to or associated with other questions. They must be completely independent.

Q: What happens to the data for hidden questions?

A: Like regular questions whose logic is not triggered, the data for hidden questions will be marked as "(Skipped)", except when the question answer is predefined through other methods like parameters or formulas.

Q: Can I hide required questions?

A: Yes, required questions can be hidden, similar to required questions with associations that are not triggered. The required validation will not apply when the question is hidden.

Q: How does hiding questions affect question randomization?

A: Hidden questions are excluded from randomization. For example, if you have 5 questions total and hide 2, random selection of 4 questions will only show 3 questions.

Q: When can I hide options instead of deleting them?

A: You can hide options when a questionnaire already has response data and you're in partial editing mode. The system prohibits deleting options to maintain data consistency, but hiding preserves the data while making options invisible.

Q: What happens to hidden options in the data?

A: Hidden options remain in the data but their selection count will not increase. The option text, description, and any corresponding fillable input boxes are all hidden from respondents.

Q: Can I hide options that have logic or are set as default/correct answers?

A: No, options to be hidden cannot have any logic (jumping, associations), cannot be set as default options, and cannot be correct answers in exams. They must be completely independent.

Q: Can I hide row or column headers in matrix questions?

A: No, matrix questions do not support hiding either row or column headers. Only individual question options can be hidden.

Q: How do I restore hidden questions or options?

A: For hidden questions, click the "Show Question" button. For hidden options, use the restore interface in partial editing mode. Both can be restored at any time.
