Setting Question Points

1. Basic Point Assignment:

- Enter a numerical value in the points field for each question

- Points can be set as whole numbers or decimals (e.g., 1, 2, 5, 10, 0.5, 1.5)

- The default point value is typically 5 point per question

2. Total Score Calculation:

- The system automatically calculates the total possible score by summing all question points

- Participant scores are calculated based on correct answers and scoring rules

- Final scores are displayed in the transcript/scorecard after quiz completion

Scoring Rules by Question Type

1. Multiple Choice Questions (Single Answer):

- Full points are awarded for selecting the correct answer

- Zero points are awarded for incorrect answers

- Only one answer can be marked as correct

Multiple Choice Question Scoring

2. Checkboxes Quiz (Multiple Answers):

Checkboxes questions support three scoring methods:

a. No score for less selection:

- Students only receive points if they select all correct answers

- Selecting too few, too many, or incorrect options results in zero points

- This is the default scoring method

No Partial Credit Scoring

b. Fixed score for less selection:

- Students receive a fixed partial score when selecting some but not all correct answers

- The partial score amount is configurable.Click the Partial selection score rule

- Example: If a question has three correct answers (A, C, D) :

- Selecting all three (A, C, D) = full points (6 points)

- Selecting two correct (A, C) = partial points (3 points)

Fixed Partial Score Method

c. Partial score for less selection:

- Students receive points based on the sum of points for correctly selected options

- Individual option points can be set, and the sum cannot exceed the total question points

- Example: If a question has three correct answers (A, C, D) :

- Selecting all three (A, C, D) = full points (6 points)

- Selecting two correct (A, C) = partial points (4 points)

Partial Score Method

3. True/False Questions:

- Full points are awarded for selecting the correct true/false answer

- Zero points are awarded for incorrect answers

- Scoring works similarly to single-answer multiple choice questions

True False Question Scoring

4. Multiple Textbox Questions (Fill in the Blanks):

Multiple textbox questions support two scoring rule types:

a. Exact Match Required:

- The student's answer must exactly match one of the correct answers to receive points

Exact Match Scoring Rule

- Case sensitivity and Punctuation sensitive can be configured

Case Sensitivity Settings

b. Contains Answer:

- The student receives points if their answer contains the text of any correct answer

- More flexible matching for partial credit

c. Random Answer Order Mode:

- When all blanks have identical answers, students can enter answers in any order

- Repeated answers will not be scored (marked incorrect)

- Each blank is scored independently

Example of Multiple Textbox Scoring: example

Consider a question with three blanks:

- First blank: Answers set to A and B, with "Contains Answer" scoring rule enabled

- Students can enter A1, B1, A, or B to receive points (any answer containing A or B will score)

- Second blank: Answers set to C and D, with "Exact Match Required" scoring rule enabled

- Students must enter exactly C or D to receive points

- Third blank: Answers set to C and D (same as the second blank), triggering Random Answer Order Mode

- If the second blank is filled with C, the third blank can only be filled with D to receive points (no repetition allowed)

- If the second blank is filled with D, the third blank can only be filled with C to receive points

5. Short Answer and Written Questions:

- These question types typically require manual grading

- Points can be assigned after review by the instructor

- Automatic scoring is not available for text-based answers

- Points are assigned after instructor review

- No automatic scoring is available

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How do I set points for quiz questions?

A: Navigate to the question editing page and find the "Score" or "Score & Answer Settings" field. Enter a numerical value (whole number or decimal) to assign points to each question. The default is typically 5 points per question.

Q: What scoring methods are available for checkboxes questions?

A: Checkboxes questions support three scoring methods: "No score for less selection" (default), "Fixed score for less selection", and "Partial score for less selection". Each method determines how points are awarded when students select some but not all correct answers.

Q: Can I use different scoring rules for different blanks in a multiple textbox question?

A: Yes, each blank can have its own scoring rule. You can set "Exact Match Required" for some blanks and "Contains Answer" for others. When multiple blanks have identical answers, Random Answer Order Mode is triggered to prevent duplicate answers.

Q: How does Random Answer Order Mode work?

A: When all blanks in a multiple textbox question have identical answers, students can enter answers in any order. However, repeated answers across blanks will not be scored. For example, if blank 2 is filled with C, blank 3 can only be filled with D to receive points.

Q: Do short answer and written questions require manual grading?

A: Yes, short answer, written, file upload, and drawing questions require manual grading by the instructor. Points are assigned after review, and the total score is updated in real-time after manual grading is completed.

Q: Can I change scoring rules after participants have taken the quiz?

A: Yes, you can modify scoring rules at any time. However, changes only apply to future quiz submissions. Existing submissions will retain their original scores based on the rules that were active when they were completed.

Q: What happens if I don't assign points to a question?

A: Questions without points assigned will not contribute to the total score calculation. The system will only count points from questions that have been assigned point values.

Q: How are total scores calculated?

A: The system automatically calculates the total possible score by summing all question points. Participant scores are calculated based on correct answers and the scoring rules configured for each question type. Scores are displayed in both raw points and percentages (if configured).

Q: Can I set different point values for individual options in a checkbox question?

A: Yes, when using the "Partial score for less selection" method, you can assign point values to individual options. The sum of option points cannot exceed the total question points. Students receive points based on the sum of points for correctly selected options.

Q: What is the difference between "Exact Match Required" and "Contains Answer" for multiple textbox questions?

A: "Exact Match Required" means the student's answer must exactly match one of the correct answers (with configurable case and punctuation sensitivity). "Contains Answer" is more flexible - students receive points if their answer contains the text of any correct answer.

Q: How do I view participant scores and results?

A: Participants can view their scores automatically in the transcript/scorecard after quiz completion. Instructors can access detailed scoring breakdowns through the response management page, view score statistics, and export score data for further analysis.
