Scenario Random
Scenario Random is not a multiple-choice or fill-in question. It is a descriptive block: the system randomly picks one scenario from those you configure and displays it to each respondent. Each scenario can include text, images, videos, and other rich media. Respondents see only the Scenario Description content—not the backend Option Text used for identification.
Use cases
- Show different situational descriptions to different respondents in the same survey (e.g., purchase context, policy briefing, product usage), then ask follow-up questions.
- Experimental or A/B-style research: scenarios are randomly assigned, with Quantity Limit controlling how often each scenario may appear.
- Show different follow-up questions depending on which scenario a respondent receives (e.g., pricing questions for Scenario A, feature questions for Scenario B).
- Scenario content needs images or video to simulate real reading or viewing—not just text options.
Feature access
1. In the survey editor, add a Scenario Random question from the question type library.
2. After adding, configure each scenario with Scenario Description, Option Text, and Quantity Limit.
3. You can add multiple scenarios (options); the system randomly assigns one to each respondent when they open the survey.
Configure scenario options
Each scenario corresponds to one option row with the main settings below.
Scenario Description
1. In Scenario Description, enter all content shown to respondents for that scenario.
2. Supports text, images, with rich-text formatting as needed.
3. Respondents see only this content—make the scenario clear and complete.
Option Text
1. Option Text is optional and used only for backend identification of which scenario a respondent received.
2. Respondents never see Option Text during the survey.
3. Use short, unique labels (e.g., "Scenario A", "High price group") to simplify filtering and analysis in exports and response details.
Quantity Limit
1. In Quantity Limit, set the maximum number of times this scenario may be randomly assigned across the survey.
2. Assignment is system-driven and random; once the limit is reached, that scenario is no longer assigned to new respondents.
3. To keep group sizes balanced, set sensible limits per scenario and estimate total response volume.
Batch-set linked questions
When different scenarios should show different follow-up questions, use batch linking to control which questions appear for each scenario.
1. In the Scenario Random question editor, click Batch Set Scenario-Linked Questions.
2. A batch settings dialog opens.
3. In the dialog, configure each scenario separately: choose which questions to display when that scenario is randomly assigned to a respondent.
4. Check the questions that should appear under that scenario; unchecked questions will not be shown when that scenario appears.
5. Save when done to apply a "different scenario → different follow-up questions" flow.
Respondent experience
1. When a respondent opens the survey, the system randomly selects one scenario from those configured and still under their quantity limit.
2. The page shows that scenario's Scenario Description (text, images, video, etc.).
3. Scenario Random itself requires no selection or input; follow-up questions usually collect feedback afterward. If batch-linked questions are configured, respondents see only the follow-up questions selected for their assigned scenario.
4. In preview, refresh the page multiple times (e.g., press F5) to see different random scenario displays.
View Scenario Description report
After respondents complete the survey, you can view the Scenario Description report in analytics to review scenario-level counts and linked-question response details.
1. Open your survey Analytics and find the Scenario Description Report entry for the Scenario Random question.
2. The report shows how many times each scenario appeared, helping you verify random assignment and group sample sizes.
3. It also shows detailed responses for linked questions under each scenario (e.g., option distributions, fill-in answers), so you can compare results by scenario.
4. If batch-linked questions are configured, the report includes only data for linked questions that were actually shown and answered under that scenario.
Important Notes
1. Scenario Random is for display only—not a choice or fill-in question. Do not treat it like a standard single- or multiple-choice item.
2. Option Text is for backend and export identification only; it is not shown to respondents.
3. If your survey has multiple Scenario Random questions, each is randomized independently. Cross-combinations across questions may not be evenly distributed and can differ significantly. Plan question count and quantity limits carefully when strict combination design is required.

Q: How is Scenario Random different from a regular single-choice question?
