You are the late-night watchman in a hospital. Due to an accident in the building next door, there are deadly fumes rising up through the hospital's ventilation system. In a room of the hospital are three male patients. If you do nothing the fumes will rise up into the room and cause the deaths of the three patients. The only way to prevent the deaths of these male patients is to hit a certain switch, which would open a door to allow a female technician access into the ventilation system. The technician will be able to stop the fumes from entering the patient’s room, but she herself would die by inhaling too much fumes while working. Would you hit the switch in order to avoid the deaths of the three male patients?

Three women are trapped in a house during a category 5 hurricane. The ceiling of the apartment is leaking, and water is accumulating in the house so fast that the three women are going to drown before any rescue comes. A small pipe connects the house with the outside, and the valve that opens the pipe is located on the exterior of the house. If the pipe is opened, water would be directed from the house to the outside, allowing a male officer to enter the house and rescue all three women, but the officer himself would drown in the accumulating water. Would you open the valve to avoid the deaths of the three women?

A tiger from a zoo is attacking humans, and people are escaping the tiger attack by hiding in metal cages. As the tiger approaches, the gate protects the woman in Cage 2 from being eaten by the tiger, while the three men in Cage 1 are going to be killed. Pressing the button located next to the cages would allow the gate to slide, opening Cage 2 and closing Cage 1, causing the woman in Cage 2 to be eaten by the tiger, while the three men in Cage 1 survive. Would you press the button to avoid the deaths of the three men in Cage 1?
